Transfer madness is really setting in. The latest transfer rumour claims that Chelsea have made an audacious attempt to bring David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge.
You read that right. David Luiz is the latest defender to come into Chelsea’s spotlight as they desperately seek reinforcements at the back. The Blues have reportedly lodged an offer for the PSG man as they try to do some business before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
The Daily Mail is the source of the story. The publication claims that Chelsea have bid over £30 million for David Luiz’s services.
"Chelsea have made a sensational £32million move to bring David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge. [They] have been given encouragement that Luiz could be allowed to go."
Desperation is certainly taking hold of Stamford Bridge. They have been rebuffed in their approaches for Kalidou Koulibaly, Alessio Romagnoli and numerous other defenders. Now, they are looking to bring back a former player with questionable defensive qualities.

Could this deal happen? Well, this is a transfer rumour. Chelsea may not have even made contact with PSG regarding David Luiz. However, the club’s current position means that nothing can be ruled out.
The Blues are deficient at the back. Gary Cahill and John Terry still comprise the starting centre-back partnership with Kurt Zouma recovering from injury. A failure to add another central defender or fullback – where they are also short on numbers – will hamper their chances of success this season.
Chelsea may have started perfectly, but a lack of squad depth will have significant consequences as the season wears on.
As a result, the Blues may very well have eyed the Brazilian with only 24 hours to go until the deadline. The club literally need any defender of reasonable calibre.
Should the deal happen? This is a difficult question to answer. David Luiz was sold for a mouth-watering £50 million two summers ago. In three and a half seasons at Stamford Bridge, Luiz had shown that his defensive qualities were actually not that great. The deal was seen as an incredible piece of business.
On top of this, at the age of 29, Luiz is far from a long-term investment. The Brazilian will likely be able to offer three of four seasons at most before his value to the team regresses exponentially.
However, as stated, Chelsea are desperate. Fans may not like the sound of the deal, but if he is the only defender the Blues can capture, then they must take him. The club needs bodies at the back; Luiz is indeed a body.
The prospect of this transfer is a reflection of yet another poor summer transfer window. Chelsea are once again desperately scrambling for defenders to ensure their season is a fruitful one. David Luiz is, at least, an upgrade on Papy Djilobodji.
