In the latest ridiculous transfer rumour, Barcelona winger Arda Turan has reportedly bought a house near Stamford Bridge, indicating that a Chelsea switch is imminent.

The world of football transfers is certainly bizarre. Tabloids are constantly using the smallest piece of unreliable information to concoct rumours linking big players with big switches. The latest to fall victim to this merry-go-round is Arda Turan, who has reportedly just bought a house near Stamford Bridge. A Chelsea move will naturally follow…

Turkish Football is the source of the story, claiming that the Barcelona man has made a homely investment in West London.

"Rumours linking Arda Turan with a move to Chelsea have been reignited after the Turkey international brought [sic] a home in London. A source close to the player revealed to Turkish-Football that Turan has brought a home in the Chelsea area – near Stamford bridge."

Most rational readers will dismiss this as nonsense. There are a plethora of reasons for purchasing prime property in an expensive part of London. However, it is worth discussing what Turan could bring to the Blues.

More from The Pride of London

The winger made a name for himself at Atletico Madrid. He thrived under Diego Simeone, providing industrious play up and down the wings. Importantly, though, he also possesses significant skill.

Turan is hard-working player, but he is not afraid to challenge defenders one-on-one either. With his low centre of gravity and tricky feet, his attacking threat is immense. This is reflected in his 14 goals and six assists for Barcelona this season.

Such a profile makes him a candidate for a wingback slot. Chelsea currently have Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso in the roles and, although they are doing a fine job, their longevity is in question. The duo need real competition to maintain the high standards they have set, while the Blues need depth should one get injured.

Turan could be the man that Antonio Conte requires. Furthermore, he may just walk straight into the starting eleven.

The issue at the moment surrounds his availability. Turan joined Barcelona last season and he has contributed when called upon. As the Catalans enter what appears to be a transitional period, Turan’s purpose is unclear.

At the age of 30, he may be retained as a senior player to guide the club’s youngsters into the next era. Conversely, Barca may want to sell him for what they can and reinvest the funds.
