Chelsea should be building the team in Eden Hazard’s image

Eden Hazard made his move to Chelsea from Lille in the summer of 2012. Chelsea should not forget that, since then, he has become one of the world’s best.

Few players at Chelsea right now make the team one among the big clubs. Losing two – or even just one – of them could have catastrophic effects on the future of the club. In that sense or in any sense, there is no one more important to Chelsea at the moment than Eden Hazard.

The talented Belgian talisman has been one of standout players for the Blues every season, if not the outright best. Fans have always been concerned he would be leaving the club every summer since his arrival. Six years on, he is still there.

There would be no shortage of interest if ever Hazard decides to leave the club. He could always move to a bigger club to win everything or to have a different challenge. But unlike some players, he have never flirted with any clubs to get any kind of favors. He is at Chelsea only because he loves the club and everything that comes with it. It’s high time the Chelsea board appreciates it and shows their intent. He is at the age where he should decide what’s best for him.

“If I stay, it’s for the team to be better than it was than in the season we have just gone through,” Eden Hazard told L’Equipe after the difficulties of 2017/18.

For a club to move forward in the right direction, especially after what happened in the previous season, the board should spend money on the right players. The market has evolved so much that it’s impossible to pull off a transfer like they did it with Hazard in 2012, signing a player of his talent for only £32 million.

It’s not just for the on-field aspects of the game. If Chelsea wants to attract big money sponsorship deals in the future, they need players who could attract them. The club needs to sign players who will improve the team as soon as they are signed in every aspects.

Last summer’s mistakes should be rectified. There is no point in buying players who will come good in three years or who are not fully fit. Chelsea will only go even down if they persist in that idea.

Chelsea should buy players who encourage people like Hazard to stay. One cannot move forward standing still in a flowing river. They need to move as well. Chelsea simply can’t afford to lose Hazard.
