Gary Cahill and Ashley Cole started for England while Frank Lampard was relegated to the bench for the match. Cole was dangerous as usual and was connecting well with his teammates, particularly striker Wayne Rooney. Luke Shaw replaced Cole at halftime and also played well but it would be surprising if Roy Hodgson leaves behind a player with such experience and ability. Cahill was his usual dominant self but the England side as a whole did not play very well as they seemed to lack urgency. Even though they came away with a win it was not a very comfortable or reassuring one.
