After a very hot start to the season in the Eredivisie and at one point topping the table, Vitesse Arnhem have recently fallen in to second place and have struggled to regain their good form. Much of that may have to do with the recent dip in form of Chelsea FC loaneed Lucas Piazon. Before the new year began, Piazon had scored 11 goals and added eight assists to help Vitesse reach the top. However since January he has not registered on the score sheet or even managed an assist. In fact he has not started in the last four games for the club and has managed only a few substitute appearances. The club has done fine without him but the lack of form has been worrying for Piazon.
Still only 20 years old, this is a player who had pundits and fans talking about him potentially breaking in to the Chelsea first team next year with his earlier performances. However given the recent dip in his performances it seems that another loan may be in order for next year but hopefully a more aggressive one. Lucas Piazon has done well in the Netherlands overall and will hopefully have earned himself a loan to a Premier League side next year. The youngster still has plenty of chances this year to prove himself and fight his way back in to the starting side at Vitesse.
Chelsea and Jose Mourinho will certainly be tracking the way Piazon reacts and adapts to his recent struggles as mental strength is as important as any other trait a footballer possesses. Regardless of what happens this year, Chelsea will give Lucas Piazon every chance to succeed before making a final decision on his value and potential with the senior squad.
