Former Chelsea FC boss Avram Grant has recently urged the club to bring back their three veterans Ashley Cole, John Terry, and Frank Lampard, who are all up for new contracts this summer. The Israeli manager told Sky Sports news that he feels that these veterans can still contribute to a good Chelsea squad and would be part of a good mix of exciting young talent and veteran savvy.

Avram Grant on bringing back the old guard next season:

"“Chelsea have a good squad for next season. If you can use those players Lampard, Terry and Cole, sometimes not even all of the season because of their age, but if you can use them it would be good. Especially if you want to buy and I know that Chelsea want to buy a young talented player, so the balance needs to be with an experienced player. I don’t need to make a decision but I think all of these three can make a contribution, not for all the season, but they can make Chelsea better.”"

John Terry had the best season out of all three players and formed the best defensive partnership in the Premier League with Gary Cahill. He was even considered a snub for the PFA team of the year. Frank Lampard has had a solid campaign but has not featured very much and will not reach his usual double digit goal count this season. Ashley Cole seemed to be a forgotten man at the club until injuries and suspensions brought him back to the spotlight and he reminded everyone how good he still is.

Of all three players it appears that Ashley Cole would be the most likely to leave given the rumors and reports surrounding his name. Terry proved he can still be a great defender while Lampard has showed signs of slowing down this year. These Chelsea legends can not play forever and they have to leave at some point in their careers but the question remains if it will be this summer that the ties are finally severed.
