On the final day of one of the more unpredictable Premier League seasons in recent memory, Manchester City were crowned champions without any of the drama of their first title. The Sky Blues only needed a single point from their final match against West Ham United to claim the title as even if Liverpool won against Newcastle United they would have been ahead on goal difference. Rather than letting goal difference be the decider, Manchester City took matters in to their own hands and ran away comfortable victors at the Etihad Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini started seven of the eleven players that won the title on that fateful day against Queens Park Rangers to give the side patience and experience. They knew that West Ham would be hard to break down and the knowledge that a draw would do the trick was enough to keep them cool and relaxed. News of an early goal that gave Newcastle the lead filtered through the stadium and the calming effect it had on the players was evident right away. Samir Nasri opened the scoring six minutes from halftime that flew past keeper Adrian who was unsighted but still managed to get a touch on the ball but it was not enough.

The party was in full swing at the Etihad by halftime but the crowd was sent in to a frenzy just four minutes in to the second half. Captain Vincent Kompany, just weeks ago the scapegoat for the loss to Liverpool, poked home a header from Edin Dzeko who won the ball from a corner. The title was all but secure and the result was guaranteed. City stumbled often in the season but luckily for them so did their main rivals for the title, Chelsea and Liverpool. This season was decided not by which team was the best over the course of the season, but rather by which team made the least amount of mistakes. Congratulations to Manchester City and to Manuel Pellegrini for securing his second trophy this season.
