Chelsea FC: Thorgan Hazard Wins Belgian Jupiler League Player Of The Year Award

Chelsea FC loanee and S.V. Zulte Waregem midfielder Thorgan Hazard has been named the Belgian Jupiler League Player of the Year. Thorgan’s performances this year in Belgium have helped him shake off the label as just Eden’s little brother and people may be soon be asking “which one?” when proclaiming what “Hazard” did this weekend for the Blues. Thorgan has spent the past two seasons at Zulte Waregem but has really imposed himself on the Belgian League this season with 16 goals and winning over the fans who unveiled a banner at his last home match that said “Arrived as ‘little brother of…’ leaving as OUR golden boy”.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was also at Thorgan Hazard’s last match to get an up close and personal look at the youngster. Reports from the Daily Mail claim that Mourinho will be bringing Thorgan along for Chelsea’s preseason tour so he can get a much better look at him. It might be hard for Thorgan to break in to the first team next season but a more aggressive loan is surely in the works to either a Premier League team or another league that has a higher competition level than Belgium.

Thorgan Hazard was also named to the provisional Belgium World Cup squad but was inexplicably left behind in favor of Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj who just declared his allegiance to Belgium a few months ago. Traveling to Brazil would have been a wonderful experience for Thorgan and may have been great for his development but at least this way he can spend more time at the Chelsea facilities and get coached up by the staff there. Whatever happens this summer or next year for Thorgan one thing is clear, his future is very very bright.
