Andre Schurrle started off the campaign a little unsure of himself and where he fit in to the club. He was deployed as a forward and center midfielder at Bayer Leverkusen but his position was a bit more unclear at Chelsea. His first start at forward ended in a 0-0 draw against Manchester United and he did not make much of an impact on the match. In the second half of the season, in both the Premier League and Champions League, Schurrle really established himself in the team and on the scoresheet. He scored a hat-trick against Fulham and the opener in the second leg of the Champions League tie against PSG to give the Blues hope of advancing despite a two goal deficit.
Schurrle was a fine utility player for the Blues and did well when he was called upon but he will find it even harder to break in to the first team next season with Mohamed Salah and a hopefully fit Oscar as added competition. He does seem to always have a positive attitude and that will surely help him as he fights to earn a regular place in the starting eleven.
