Yaya Toure Downplays Birthday Row But Promises Statement After World Cup

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure downplayed the birthday row on Twitter but backed his agent and promised he would make a statement after the World Cup. He said that his agent Dmitri Sulek speaks the truth but that no one should judge his commitment to the club based on that rant but rather on how he performs on the field. That sounds easy enough to say but if your agent threatens that you will leave the club over this “snub” then there is certainly some explaining and apologizing that needs to be done.

Yaya Toure’s tweets in full from his account @Toure_Yaya42:

This situation will definitely be followed by clubs who will be vying for Yaya Toure’s signature and can afford his wages. The thought of a Nemanja Matic-Yaya Toure midfield partnership had Chelsea fans salivating on Twitter but obviously the Ivorian would not come cheap. He is worth every penny however and is one of the best, if not the best, player in the Premier League. When he is healthy, Manchester City is nearly unbeatable and their dips in form usually coincided with his injury layoffs last year. This story will probably just go away in the coming weeks but it does not hurt to dream of Matic and Toure bossing the Stamford Bridge midfield for years to come.
