One thing you may have overlooked, or at the very least scratched your head about, in Chelsea FC loanee Patrick Bamford’s interview with The Guardian is the fact that One Direction star Niall Horan and Jose Mourinho send text messages to each other regularly. The two seem to be an odd pairing but they appear to have built a friendship when Horan was using Cobham as his physical therapy and recovery center after undergoing knee surgery earlier in the year.

Niall Horan is also apparently a big fan of Championship side Derby County where Patrick Bamford is currently on loan, and as he said in the interview, Bamford learned that Mourinho is following his progress from the One Direction star. Horan showed Bamford text messages from Jose Mourinho about the young striker who thought the manager was not aware of how he was performing at Derby.
Bamford on his conversation with Niall Horan:
"“Niall from One Direction is a big Derby fan, he came down to the club and I was talking to him. Niall said: ‘Mourinho knows all about you, he texts me all the time.’ I said: ‘No he doesn’t.’ He showed me his phone, and because he was doing his treatment at Chelsea, for his knee injury, he knew all the Chelsea boys and Mourinho. And he had texts from Mourinho whenever I scored, saying ‘Bamford again!’ That made me smile. That was the first time I knew that Mourinho knew about me.”"
Obviously Bamford is a bit naive to think that Jose Mourinho would not be following the progress of the Chelsea loanees but it is funny how he got confirmation of that fact. So, the last time we checked, if you are a member of One Direction you get to hang out at Cobham or Derby, have a kick-about with Chelsea players, and exchange text messages with Jose Mourinho? Where can we sign up?
