Derby County Loanee Patrick Bamford Wants To Be Chelsea FC’s Third Striker

Bamford spoke about meeting with Jose Mourinho this season and said, “The first thing he said to me was: ‘What do you want to do next season?’ As quick as I could I said: ‘Play for Chelsea.’ He said: ‘That’s good, at least you know what you want. We’ll see.” That prospect appears unlikely considering how inexperienced he is but he should certainly be in the squad for the preseason which is what Bamford seems to be banking on.
"“From what they’ve said, ideally I’ll be third striker, but you never know really in football. Hopefully I get a good pre-season, especially with the World Cup, because a lot of the big players are going to be away, so it’s going to give some of us youngsters the chance to get some game time to try and show him what we can do.At Chelsea Jimmy Fraser [the head of youth recruitment] showed me the plans they had for me. Once I had listened to that and I actually believed it – that was the main thing, for me to believe it – I decided Chelsea was where I wanted to be.I think I’m ready now for the Premier League. Whether or not Chelsea feel that’s with them or another team remains to be seen.”"
Patrick Bamford has shown that he can score consistently and sometimes easily at the Championship level and he deserves a shot in the Premier League. The ideal scenario would be for Derby County to earn promotion and the youngster can just renew his loan there. If Derby does not earn promotion, then Chelsea should pursue an aggressive loan deal for Bamford with a Premier League club that needs a young striker.
