Joachim Low Praises Andre Schurrle’s Growth At Chelsea FC

German national team manager Joachim Low praised Andre Schurrle’s growth and development in England and said that the spell was “really, really good” for the midfielder. Low attributed Schurrle’s growth to the fact that he has played in some big matches for the Chelsea including the Champions League quarter and semi finals.

Joachim Low on Andre Schurrle’s growth at a press conference after the senior squad played a test match against the U20 squad:

"“That year in England has done Schurrle really, really good, You can see it in his appearance and his confidence. He’s played in quite a few big games for Chelsea. He’s become more physical. He’s made a good impression in training and in the match.”"

Schurrle’s improved physical strength and confidence can also be attributed to his club team manager Jose Mourinho. Earlier this season Schurrle discussed the changes that Mourinho asked him to make to his game and his body to adjust to the rigors of the Premier League. The midfielder spent more time in the gym and tried to add more muscle to his lean frame and it clearly worked for him as he came on strong in the final months of the season.

Schurrle on Mourinho’s advice on how to change his game and his body:

"“He told me I needed to change, to change my game and my body and that’s what I’ve done over the last two months. I’ve really worked very hard to be aggressive, to be in a good shape with my body. Now I’m ready to play more often. So I did a lot in the gym. But I wanted to do this, I needed to do this. The manager told me it as well. I wanted to change and I think I have. It was amazing to score a hat-trick, but I have to keep going.”"

Andre Schurrle has had an up and down season for Chelsea but the final months have definitely been on the upswing. He will have a chance to improve even further this summer at the World Cup and will hopefully return to Chelsea a more complete player.
