Omeruo has spent a fine season on loan at Middlesbrough and has seen his stock rise in English football with every masterful performance at centerback.

The Nigerian is also already a full international for the Super Eagles and has already been named to the World Cup squad and will likely start at he heart of defense. At the age of 20 all of this makes Omeruo seem miles ahead of the other Chelsea prospects and gives him a bit more leverage in contract negotiations.

Omeruo’s agent and advisor Chika Akujobi told AfricanFootball.com:

"“We have agreed a new three-year contract for Kenneth. We have all seen the draft of the improved contract and the boy is happy about it.It’s a good contract and we are all happy about how Chelsea have warmed up to him and made him feel very much at home.Everything is not all about money because Chelsea have really taken care of the player.”"

This is a marked improvement over comments from two weeks ago that Akujobi made regarding the contract negotiations. It was claimed that Kenneth Omeruo wanted to double his current wages after proving himself at the Championship level.

Akujobi’s comments two weeks ago:

"“We want them to double the offer, but they said they have a new policy for young players who have yet to break into their first-team and this ensures they do not go overboard with their offers. But Kenneth has already proved himself in the English Championship which is even more forceful and physical than the English Premier League, which is more about tactics. Chelsea have to come up and they have to do so soon, before the club go on summer holidays.”"

This new contract is a big sign that Chelsea see Kenneth Omeruo as a fine prospect for the future and as a potential first teamer. He will likely go out on loan for a few more seasons and may finally get the big contract he desires once he proves himself at the Premier League level.
