Chelsea FC: David Luiz Happy To Start “New Phase” Of His Career
Chelsea FC defender David Luiz is heading to PSG on a big money transfer and the Brazilian said he is happy to start a new phase of his career. Luiz spoke to journalists outside of the Brazilian national team’s training camp in Rio De Janeiro and seemed excited to embark on a new challenge in a new country and new league.
PSG reportedly bought David Luiz for a world record fee for a defender of £50 million which seems to be an offer that Chelsea could not refuse for a player that was not first choice at either of the positions he played for the Blues. Even with the huge fee, there were mixed reactions from the fans who loved the Brazilian and his enthusiasm and passion for the game.
David Luiz on his new challenge with PSG:
"“I made a point of wrapping everything up before coming to train with the national team. It’s a new phase, a new project, a new country, a new language…. I was very happy at Chelsea, I won titles, but I had arrived at the end of a cycle. I’m going to start a new cycle in Paris. It’s going to be announced when the (transfer) window opens. But I can already say I’ve reached a deal with Paris and I’m very happy to be going there.”Source: AFP"
Luiz will be partnered with his Brazilian national team teammate Thiago Silva where the pair will form PSG’s centerback partnership. It is a return to his familiar position in the center of defense and it will be alongside a player that Luiz describes as a “marvelous person who always makes me really happy” and a “great leader”.
PSG are getting a remarkable footballer and person albeit at an extravagant price. It is hard to say if any defender out there is worth the £50 million that they are paying for him but if anyone is, it is the complete package on and off the pitch that David Luiz is.
