Manchester City’s James Milner Praises Frank Lampard

Manchester City and England midfielder James Milner had nothing but praise for his international teammate Frank Lampard and his achievements. Milner was asked about Lampard after the news had filtered out that he was leaving Chelsea FC after thirteen trophy-filled seasons with the club. Milner called him an “outstanding” player and that he is the “perfect professional”.

James Milner has not played with Lampard at the club level but they have been teammates on the England squad for several years now. The 28 year old Man City midfielder gives us a great insight on the way Lampard is regarded in the England setup and his glowing praise is likely shared by many others in the squad.

James Milner on Frank Lampard’s achievements and how he fits in to youthful England squad.

"“It is hard to put into words [how good he has been]. If you see how many goals he has scored and how many trophies he has won – his form over the years for club and country has been outstanding. He never seems to have an off-season – every single season he delivers and the example is set for the younger players to come in. Ever since he came into the England squad he has been a top player and a top pro and that is exactly what we need going into a major tournament.”“Obviously we have got the younger players but we also have five or six who have been to a World Cup before who can help the lads. I think there is a great mix – everybody is really focused and ready to go. There is a real professional feel around the squad and everybody knows what is expected of them – the preparations have been second to none.”Source: TheFA.com"

Milner and Lampard are two of the more experienced players in the England squad and they share a similar spirit in terms of their approach to the game. Both players give their all both in attack and defense and are never short on hustle and effort. From his comments it is clear that James Milner looks up to Lampard as a bit of a role model and what better player to hope to emulate than Super Frank?
