Here’s another resume that is second to none: 4 FA Cups, 1 Premier League, Champions League, and Europa (and that’s just with our Blues).  Ashley Cole is on the short list of “Greatest Left Backs Ever,” alongside names like Roberto Carlos, Paolo Maldini, and Denis Irwin.

He was the model left back.  Flawless in his marking and alert enough to cover the goal line if the case presented itself, he was a rock defensively.  But, it was his ability to turn defense into offense so quickly that made him the force that lead to so many cups and medals.

Replaced by:  César Azpilicueta.  Now this is tricky, because we all know “Dave” is a right back by trade, but this past season, he filled in more than admirably for Cole at left back.  That said, you just don’t replace the “Best Left Back ever.”
