If Miguel Moya is intended to be the replacement for Courtois then it is simply further confirmation that Chelsea do not intend to let their star youngster go back out on loan. Whether they intend to keep him as the number one or as the understudy to Petr Cech is another question altogether. On the other hand, Moya could be brought in as a backup to Courtois but as usual, time will tell.
USA Today on Atletico Madrid’s new signing:
"“Spanish champion Atletico Madrid says goalkeeper Miguel Moya has agreed to a transfer from crosstown club Getafe. Moya’s arrival could pave the way for the exit of Belgium goalie Thibaut Courtois, who has played at Atletico for the past three seasons on loan from Chelsea.Atletico says Moya has agreed to sign a three-year contract after he undergoes a medical examination. The 30-year-old Moya injured his right knee in March and needed surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Moya has played 10 seasons in Spain’s first division, playing for Mallorca and Valencia before spending the last three seasons with Getafe."
The signs keep pointing to a return to Chelsea for Courtois after he had another fantastic season at Atletico Madrid. The brass at Stamford Bridge may have decided that it is time for the youngster to learn what it means to be a Chelsea player and forge the emotional connection with the club that he believes is so important.
