World Cup: Chelsea FC’s Jose Mourinho Picks England-Portugal Final

As part of Yahoo! Sports Coverage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Jose Mourinho has been an ‘ambassador’ for the game. Part of his role has been to create a prediction for how this summers tournament will play out, and earlier he revealed his picks for the quarterfinals onward.

In the quarterfinals the Chelsea manager has Brazil playing England, France against Germany, Spain playing Italy and Argentina against Portugal. In Mourinho’s words

"“For this kind of quarterfinal, the world stops. A real picture like this would be amazing.”"

The Portuguese manager has backed England and Germany to advance to the semifinals on one side, with Portugal eliminating Argentina to face Italy. Should this be a correct pairing, the world would see El Classico and Ballon d’Or rivals Cristiano Ronaldo facing nemesis Lionel Messi in a thrilling match, possibly one to settle debates over which player is the better of the two (for now).

From this stage, Mourinho backs England to see off the Germans and Portugal to dispatch Italy to reach the Final, however he is quick to assure us that this is not a real ideal prediction and that he is simply “having a bit of fun”

"“Because Italy killed Spain in the last final, in the European Cup, I would say revenge for Italy. And Argentina against Portugal. If I want to have holidays in Portugal in peace, I have to say Portugal.”"

The Chelsea manager is clearly enjoying the holiday away from managing the Chelsea first team, and will no doubt be keenly interested not only in the performances of current Chelsea players in Brazil, but also for any future players the West London club are seeking to bring into the fold.
