That’s it. Luis Suarez is the worst.
Once is far too much. Twice is ridiculous. And now, on the world’s biggest stage, with his country needing him to be at his best, Luis Suarez did it again!?!
Two seasons ago, while sitting at the pub, I watched Suárez blatantly bite down on Branislav Ivanović during a close match at Anfield and laughed. Why the laughter? Because (like all three times), he went unpunished for the crime and I knew, KNEW, he was going to score. And, with the last touch of the match, after what felt like 20 minutes of extra time, Suarez put the ball in the back of the net to secure a tie for Liverpool. It was too comical for me to even get upset.
As if the three biting incidents weren’t enough (read that sentence again), there also is the matter of the “Luis Suarez racial abuse incident.” During a match in 2011, racially charged words were exchanged between Suarez and Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. After a lengthy invesitgation, Suárez was given an 8 game suspension.
So, what do we make of Luis Suarez? He was named Liverpool player of the year in 2013 (1 month after biting Ivanović) and PFA Player of the Year and FWA Player of the year in 2014. Nearly every list of “Best Players in the World” has him near the top with names like Messi and Ronaldo. All joking aside, watching him in Liverpool red scares me to bits. He’s the perfect goal scorer with the ability to score in every possible way.
Even more, Liverpool thinks so highly of him that he was named 3rd Captain behind Gerrard and Agger, and has worn the armband on more than one occasion. Say what you will about Liverpool, but they clearly value who wears the armband for their club and now they need to answer for Suarez.
The answer is simple. Get this guy out of the game. Maybe for the entire season including Champions League.
FIFA must act.
Liverpool must act.
