Recent reports from the Daily Mail suggest that Ryan Bertrand’s contract, which was due to last until 2017, might come to a premature end with him making a move towards Merseyside.

It would appear that Liverpool’s negotiations over the purchase of Alberto Moreno, funnily enough a strongly rumoured Chelsea FC target until the focus was switched instead to Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luís, have reached a dead end due to Seville’s unwavering demands of £20 million.
Ryan Bertrand undeniably finds himself on the wrong end of an unpredictable Chelsea career. After a series of loan spells, he made his European debut on the biggest stage of club football on a certain night in Munich back in 2012. However, he ended up failing to pose a considerable threat to Ashley Cole’s position in the starting XI. Even under Benitez’s tenure, in which he was not afraid of sidelining Chelsea’s old guard when he felt the need to, Bertrand was limited to a handful of Europa League appearances.

The fact that, on several occasions, Bertrand has demanded first team football for next season entirely supports the rumours of his departure. Given the fact that the naturally right-back Azpilicueta managed to beat him in replacing Ashley Cole, resulting in his loan spell at the generally lack-lustre Aston Villa, suggests Bertrand won’t be guaranteed first team action at Stamford Bridge come mid-August.
Brendan Rodgers, who during his time in the Chelsea FC youth set-up would have had the opportunity of working with Bertrand, supposedly considers Bertrand a more affordable solution to a position which was no doubt the cause of many a headache last season.
