Diego Simeone: Diego Costa Gave Atletico Madrid His Best
After his move to Chelsea FC was made official, many wondered how Diego Costa’s previous manager with whom he had achieved so much would react to the news. It appears that Diego Simeone is doing just fine but he told Sky Sports that he is “always going to be thankful to the players that give all their best” in reference to Diego Costa.

The Spanish/Brazilian striker was a phenomenon for Atletico Madrid last season as he lead them to a La Liga title and to the brink of a Champions League title as well. He scored more goals than all of Chelsea’s three strikers combined and was the type of game changing striker Chelsea have been looking for since Didier Drogba’s departure two years ago. Costa’s stubbornness and “heart” was on full display as he tried to battle through hamstring and calf injuries time and again for the good of the team.
Diego Simeone on Diego Costa and the future of the striker position at Atletico Madrid:
"“I am always going to be thankful to the players that give all their best. He had excellent performances while he was with us. Aguero left and many got scared, Falcao arrived and the team won what it won. Then Falcao left and it seemed like the team couldn’t improve. Costa arrived and the team kept on growing. Atletico has always handled each change very well and we expect this time to be the same.”Source: Sky Sports"
Diego Costa comes to Chelsea on the back of a fantastic domestic season but a less than stellar World Cup for Spain. To be fair to the striker, the rest of the team was sub par and his performance was simply a symptom of a general malaise in the Spanish squad. He will look to live up to his hefty price tag and try to end the run of expensive Chelsea strikers that have flopped at Stamford Bridge. Perhaps not being one of Roman Abramovich’s vanity purchases will help Diego Costa deal with the pressure and replicate his Atletico Madrid from for the Blues.
