After his move to Istanbul club Besiktas was confirmed by both clubs, Demba Ba spoke about his excitement about joining his next club. The 29 year old Ba told Sky Sports that he is very excited to play in a new stadium and in a Muslim country. Ba is a practicing Muslim and is very open about his faith on social media so this move to Turkey, a majority Muslim country, is a great fit for the striker on many different levels.

Besiktas is one of the largest clubs in Turkey and they finished third in the Turkish Süper Lig last season. The finish was good enough to get them in to the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round because the champions Fenerbahce have been excluded from European competitions next year. The level of Turkish football is relatively high and stars like Wesley Sneijder and of course Didier Drogba have made their home here.

"“I’ve had a lot of positive feedback about Besiktas and Istanbul from my Senegalese friends in Turkey. To play in a Muslim country and in a new stadium is definitely very exciting. I know what my coach Slaven Bilic expects from me, and I am open to all sorts of competition. Since Besiktas fans like hard-working and spirited players, I will give everything I’ve got in order not to disappoint them.”-Demba BaSource: Sky Sports"

Demba Ba is the highest profile player on the current Besiktas squad and despite being one of the bigger clubs in Turkey, they do not have the same high profile of Galatasaray or Fenerbahce. While it is certainly a step down for the striker, the club is very excited to have him and Besiktas president Fikret Orman said that “Ba is a player we all believe in, we put in a lot of time and effort to complete the transfer to the best of our interests”. This is a club where Demba Ba can be the star that he is and get the minutes and adulation that a player and professional of his caliber deserves.
