Mohamed Salah’s Chelsea FC Career May Be In Jeopardy
Mohamed Salah celebrating his debut goal against Arsenal FC
There is some very, very interesting news coming out about Chelsea’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah. it would seem that the talented 22 year old may be facing some trouble from the Egyptian government.
The trouble comes about because of some odd rules regarding Egyptian citizens requirements to serve time in their military. Egyptian law requires males between 18 and 30 to serve in either the police force, prison service or military for a period of 12-36 months active service, with a 9 year reserve component. However there are some exemptions. Any student under 25 may register for a student exemption, however those students cannot travel abroad without a permit from the Ministry of Defense.
The problem with Salah is that the Ministry of Higher Education has cancelled his registration with a university, meaning that he may be forced to return to Egypt. And with his registration cancelled, once Salah was to return to Egypty, he would not be allowed to leave the country.
The situation is very odd, and former Egyptian footballer and current national team director Ahmed Hassan expressed his surprise at the situation.
"Salah has expressed his shock about the decision. He told me that he is trying to represent Egypt in the best way possible. Is this the best response from the country?”"
A meeting between the Egyptian national team coaching staff, members of the Egyptian Football Association and the Minister of Higher Education has been planned to figure out a solution to this problem, according to an article at King Fut, which follows Egyptian football closely.
While no decision is final yet, Chelsea club officials will surely be monitoring the situation and are more than likely getting in touch with the heads of Egyptian football in Cairo to aid in creating a deal that would allow the promising winger to stay at Chelsea without prohibiting him from returning home to his family or forbid Salah from representing Egypt with the national team.
