We all remember Arsène Wenger’s sly smile upon stating that he had a surprise big-name transfer up his sleeve last August, and in the first half of the season Mesut Özil played a crucial role in allowing Arsenal to lead the title race until the end of winter. An undeniable overuse of his prowess and perhaps an absence of confidence to take the chances he created himself resulted in mixed reviews come the end of the season.

This season, however, the addition of Alexis Sánchez in attack could permit some much needed rotation, and confidence will be sure to run high in Mesut Özil’s performances in the Premier League following a World Cup winner’s medal to his name.
