Chelsea FC Loan Ryan Bertrand To Premier League Rival Southampton
Amid the buzz around Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Everton FC, many fans may have missed on the the fact that Ryan Bertrand has also made a move to another Premier League club. This time however it is not a high profile permanent transfer but rather a season long loan to a club badly in need of experienced players after losing Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, and Dejan Lovren this summer.
This is Ryan Bertand’s seventh loan move but it has the potential to be his best. Southampton’s squad exodus has left them desperate for players of Bertrand’s quality and with his main competition for minutes in Luke Shaw already gone to Manchester United, Bertrand should have no problem holding down the left back spot.
Here is the official statement from the Chelsea Football Club website:
"Ryan Bertrand has today completed a loan move to Southampton until the end of the season.Bertrand, a Chelsea Academy product, made his Chelsea debut in April 2011 and just over a year later lifted the Champions League on his first European outing for the club. He remains the only player ever to make his European bow in the final of the competition. The 24-year-old left-back has played 57 times for our first team and has gained two England caps.He made three appearances for the Blues in the first half of the 2013/14 campaign before joining Aston Villa on loan in January, where he featured 16 times. We wish Ryan well for the rest of the season and you can keep up with his progress here on the official Chelsea website.Source: ChelseaFC.com"
Unfortunately for Bertrand, Southampton may not be very good this year after losing most of their key players. This means that the Chelsea man may be left exposed at the back and his performances may suffer. At this point however it is more about getting regular first team football and proving he is more than an average Premier League player. Chelsea brass and all of us know that Ryan Bertrand is good enough to play in the Premier League but what we do not know is if he is good enough to play for Chelsea on a consistent basis.
