With the sad news that Chelsea legend Super Frank Lampard is joining Premier League title defenders Manchester City on a 6 month loan this upcoming season, some fans are left questioning a few things.
1) Why would Lamps join City?
2) Why would City sign him?
3) What kind of impact can he have on Manchester City’s race to secure more silverware?

The answer to the first two questions are both related and pretty similar ones, both have to do with money. Lampard, as we have read, has officially signed with New York City FC of the United States Major League Soccer. However, NYCFC won’t begin play until the 2015 MLS Season (May of 2015, MLS runs a summer calendar).
So, instead of having their new star sitting around and not doing much at the age of 36, NYCFC decided a half season loan would be the best option for Lampard. As some Chelsea fans may or may not know, Manchester City and it’s owners also are a controlling role at NYCFC, therefore it would only make sense for Manchester City to take Lamps on loan for this season. This gives the Manchester side a Premier League proven player for half a season, without having to pay a transfer fee that would count against them in the UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations.
Furthermore, while Lamps is not the box to box midfielder of his youth, he is still capable of playing a very competitive match and influencing a game in a variety of ways. He played fairly well for Chelsea in a defensive midfield role at times, operating as a deeper playmaker and serving to help settle the nerves in a young team. His experience winning nearly every trophy possible at Chelsea will be a big morale boost to a team that has had success in England, but failed miserably in their European campaigns.
Despite his relatively advanced age for a Premier League footballer, Frank Lampard can and most likely will positively impact Manchester City in their quest for another Premier League title, as well as the European Cup.
