Chelsea FC midfielder Nemanja Matic discussed the Blues’ title chances with Sky Sports and said that they want to win the Premier League title this season. Matic joined the Blues last January after spending two and a half season in Benfica as part of the initial David Luiz transfer deal in 2011. He was hailed by many as the club’s best signing in years and was a revelation in central midfield for the Blues.

Some pundits believed that Nemanja Matic was so key to Chelsea that many said they could have won the Champions League had he been eligible to play for them in the competition. With Matic holding down central midfield for Chelsea in all competitions, there is no reason to believe they cannot challenge for every trophy. He is a true world class box to box midfielder at the level of Manchester City’s Yaya Toure and is a tremendous presence in defense and attack.
Matic told Sky Sports, “I am very confident for the new season. Chelsea are in good shape and we want to win the title. Last season was very difficult for us. In some, if I can say small games, we lost points at home. That decided our season. This year we will try not to make the same mistakes.” The Serbian is referencing the points Chelsea dropped against clubs that they “should” have beat including Aston Villa and Norwich City in the tail end of the season.
This year he says that “we know what we have to do and we are prepared for everything. There are five or six teams that will fight for the title and it’s going to be hard. But we are strong and we will fight until the end.” We would not expect anything less than a great fight from Chelsea this season, especially from the combative and superbly talented Nemanja Matic.
