Chelsea FC midfielder Nemanja Matic told the club’s official website that he is excited to face Hungarian side Ferencvaros in a friendly later on Sunday. The Hungarian club is the best-supported and most popular team in the country and they have won the Hungarian League a record 28 times since 1903. Their last league title came in 2004 and it was part of a double-winning season in which they won the Hungarian Cup as well.

Nemanja Matic on Ferencvaros and Hungarian football:

"“I have always followed Hungarian football and many years ago their national team was one of the best in Europe, with some fantastic players, and Ferencvaros have always been a big club. I know the match we play will be the first in the new stadium and I’m really happy about that, it’s a big honour for Chelsea to be invited to take part in such a special event.’I’m sure they will be looking forward to playing against us and hopefully it will be a good spectacle for the supporters of both teams. I know the Hungarian fans are very passionate about football, and I’m really looking forward to seeing them and hopefully giving them something to cheer. It’s good for us to play against strong opponents in pre-season, it will be another big test but I’m confident we can win the match.”Source: ChelseaFC.com"

While Ferencvaros may not be the most high profile of opposition for Chelsea to face, the atmosphere and unfamiliar territory will be a good test for the new look Blues. The Hungarian fans will be excited to face one of the world’s most high profile clubs, especially as they open their new stadium. The location and travel will also be a good test for the young Blues as they look to gel in to a cohesive unit reminiscent of Jose Mourinho’s dominant Chelsea teams.
