Jose Mourinho: Chelsea FC Will Be Ready For Premier League Opener

Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho told the club’s official website after the friendly against Ferencvaros that the Blues will be ready for their Premier League opener against the newly-promoted Burnley. The Blues showed great resilience against the Hungarian side and came back from a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1.

It was the type of match that Mourinho will hope Chelsea can win consistently this season and he was impressed with his players’ commitment. Mourinho said, “They competed and that was important for us.” He also praised Ferencvaros and said, “We need competition, we don’t need to win 5-0, 6-0, 7-0. I told my players it’s a historical day for Ferencvaros with the opening of the new stadium; they wanted to play, perform and score the first goal in the new stadium. They fought for a result until the last minute and that was good for us.”

Mourinho also spoke about how difficult the preseason has been because of the World Cup this summer. He said, “It’s been a difficult pre-season because we started with seven players. After that, step by step, players were arriving after the World Cup and holidays. Finally, in this last week we’ve had everybody together but obviously not everyone is prepared. For example, [Branislav] Ivanovic has been training for one month, [Andre] Schurrle has trained for five days, so there is a big difference between players.”

Finally he summed up his comments with the usual “no excuses” type of talk and said, “We have to play the first league match next weekend and we will be ready for that.” If anything can be said about Mourinho it is that he always has his players prepared and ready to go. The match will be a good test against an excited and motivated promoted side but Chelsea will certainly be favored to take all three points.
