Atsu spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem where he had a fantastic season and carried that momentum in to the World Cup. He started all three matches and caught the world’s attention with a man of the match level performance against the United States.
After the World Cup, Vitesse manager Peter Bosz said that half of the Bundesliga and Premier League were after Christian Atsu and that he would not be returning to the Dutch club this season. Well it looks like Bosz was right on a few levels.
The confirmation from the Chelsea FC website:
"Christian Atsu has today (Wednesday August 13) joined Everton on loan until the end of the season. The winger joined Chelsea last summer from FC Porto, impressing while on loan with Vitesse Arnhem during 2013/14. The 22-year-old was a member of Ghana’s World Cup squad in Brazil, appearing in all three of their group games.Source: ChelseaFC.com"
Christian Atsu also confirmed the move and his excitement about it on his Twitter page:
Everton and manager Roberto Martinez have proven that they know how to properly use loan players in their system. Barcelona’s Gerard Delofeu had a very good season under Martinez when he was not injured and hopefully Christian Atsu can do the same. Best of luck at Everton Christian and try not to get too familiar with your surroundings, we want you back at Chelsea some day.
