Former Chelsea FC striker Demba Ba is now plying his trade for Turkish club Besiktas but he took a thinly veiled shot at former strike mate Fernando Torres when he was asked why he did not play as much at Stamford Bridge. He told the press that he did not play because at Chelsea or other big clubs “the name plays more than the statistics”. If that is not a shot at the misfiring Fernando Torres then we do not know what is.

Torres was consistently chosen as the second striker ahead of Demba Ba for much of the season even though he contributed little on the field. He scored a handful of goals but they were few and far in between. On the contrary for Demba Ba, when he was selected to start he would score goals like he did against Swansea City and Liverpool.
"Sometimes when you come in a team where there are a lot of big names, how can I say this, the name plays more than the statistics. And, unfortunately, I think it was my case. But like I say, I have no regret on anything or anyone’s decision to play me or not. I’m happy for the move to Chelsea from Newcastle and I did what I had to do with the time I was given.-Demba BaSource: TeamTalk.com"
At the end of the season reports came out the Jose Mourinho had promised Demba Ba a role in the Chelsea lineup for the 2014/15 season and many thought it would hail the end of the Torres era. While Ba certainly was not the answer for Chelsea’s striker problem he was useful off the bench and you would be hard pressed to find a supporter who preferred Torres over him.
