This could simply be the type of agent double speak that we as football fans have become very accustomed to but it could also be the truth. Roma has very little reason to sell Mattia Destro and even less reason to take a struggling Fernando Torres on loan. Destro was their top scorer in Serie A last season with 13 goal and the capital club very much believe that they have a chance at the Scudetto this season. So of course swapping one of their forwards for Torres is not a step in the right direction.

Mattia Destro’s agent Renzo Contratto on Chelsea’s interest:

"“It’s true that Chelsea are interested in Mattia. But the reports regarding a swap deal have no foundation, it’s all speculation. Roma don’t want to sell Mattia and Mattia prefers to remain at Roma.”Source: Sky Sports"

If Mattia Destro does indeed join Chelsea then he will likely become the first option off the bench to replace Diego Costa. He is a hybrid forward that is capable of playing out wide and could also be the perfect foil for big bruising target men like Drogba and Costa.

Of course that is if Roma is even interested in making a deal to send the 23 year old to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea would have to make them an offer they cannot refuse but if it comes with the added benefit of jettisoning Fernando Torres for a season then the club should do all they can to make the deal happen.
