Five Chelsea FC Youngsters Get England U19 Callups

For all those critics and pundits that complain about Chelsea FC’s youth policy, the news that five youngsters from the Cobham Academy made the England U19 squad should come as quite a surprise. The call-up is for a friendly match against Germany on September 8th being used as a test before the Euro U19 qualifiers. No other team has more than two players in the squad with Manchester City and Middlesbrough both sending a duo.

More from Chelsea FC News

The five Chelsea FC youngsters including in the squad are defender Josh Aina, midfielders Charlie Colkett, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and forwards Izzy Brown and Alex Kiwomya. Izzy Brown is the only member of that group to play for the first team and he did so this summer early on in the preseason. Brown was also in the squad that won the 2014 U17 Euro Cup.

Earlier in the summer Jose Mourinho singled out Izzy Brown, Lewis Baker, and Dominic Solanke and said that if the trio does not make the senior England squad then he is to blame. He acknowledged that Chelsea FC have dropped the ball in terms of developing young English talent but he has made it his mission to change that. If this most recent callup is any indication then Jose Mourinho should add a few more names to that list of his.

Here is the U19 England squad for the match against Germany:

Angus Gunn (Manchester City), Ted Smith (Southend United)
