The story of Islam Feruz’s loan destination this season has taken another turn after he made the initial move to second division side FC Kryli Sovetov was cancelled just a few days in. The striker apparently had trouble settling in his new surroundings and decided to end his Russian adventure before he even played a match for them.

Instead Islam Feruz will be heading to first division Greek side OFI Crete which is located in Cyprus. Swapping the Russian city of Samara Oblast for the beautiful Mediterranean city of Crete was probably not a very difficult choice for the youngster to make. He will also hopefully not have to deal with the racism that is rampant in the Russian leagues.

"Forward Islam Feruz has today joined Greek side OFI Crete on loan until the end of the season. The Scottish striker, who has represented his country at every level from Under-16 to Under-21, arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2011 and has contributed to successes in both the FA Youth Cup and Barclays Under-21 Premier League.OFI play in Greece’s top flight and finished in sixth place last season. They are managed by former Italy and AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.Source: ChelseaFC.com"

Islam Feruz still has plenty of growing up to do and we hope that this move was not engineered and then shut down by him. Perhaps it was a pushy agent who encouraged him to make the move but he eventually came to his senses. A season spent under the legendary hardman that is Gennaro Gattuso could also do him some good as he will have to toughen up if he hopes to make it in the Premier League one day. Best of luck to you in Cyprus, Islam Feruz!
