Fernando Torres Reveals When He Knew Time Was Up At Chelsea FC

Many Chelsea fans would say that his time was up when it took him 40 appearances to score four goals. Or it could have been up when he sulked a bit after winning the Champions League. To Fernando Torres however, he told the media at his AC Milan introductory press conference that he knew his time was up just this summer.
The striker said: “Obviously I could see what the season at Chelsea was going to be. They signed a striker that was expecting to play and I need to have this feeling of being important.” He knew was going to be second, or even third choice at the club to Diego Costa and Didier Drogba and did not want to experience that for the second season in a row.
Torres then went on to thank Liverpool and Chelsea and said: “I want to thank my two English clubs, Liverpool for bringing me to the Premier League and Chelsea for the trophies I won.” That was a nice little dig at Liverpool there Fernando, whether you meant it or not we certainly enjoyed it.
“I want to thank my two English clubs, Liverpool for bringing me to the Premier League and Chelsea for the trophies I won.”
The striker then went on to reiterate that it was his desire to “feel important” that was his motivation for joing AC Milan. He said: “After all these years, however, I needed a change, something that would give me the desire to play, to feel important. AC Milan is all I needed, a great club with great fans where I will try to shine and come back myself. I’m happy to be here, I can’t wait to begin. I played in La Liga and in the Premier League, now I am in the third most important league in Europe.”
While that last bit of the comment will not earn him many fans in Italy he is already one of the most popular footballers in the world. Even through his struggles at Chelsea, Fernando Torres was still one of the most marketable players at the club. He has a tremendous global following and hopefully he can live up to that hype once again.
He will never again be the “El Nino” of old but perhaps a new environment and a clean slate at the San Siro will revitalize him and his career. He arrives with no record transfer fee and just enough fanfare for a player with his pedigree so there is not as much pressure to perform. Whether that is a recipe for success is unknown but best of luck to you at AC Milan, Fernando.
