During the unveiling of Fernando Torres at his introductory press conference, AC Milan’s vice president Adriano Galliani was also asked about their other summer loan signing from Chelsea FC Marco Van Ginkel. The deal for Marco Van Ginkel hit some initial snags after it was reported that the youngster did not want to make the move.

More from Chelsea FC News

The reports that came out were based on the fact that Marco Van Ginkel wanted to stay at Chelsea FC and fight for his place at the club rather than get loaned out. Galliani told the media that he used two players that Van Ginkel was familiar with, Torres and Nigel De Jong, to try and convince him to make the move. That tactic clearly worked as the youngster finally accepted the move.

AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani on signing Marco Van Ginkel:

"“The most difficult deal was Van Ginkel’s one because he resisted our negotiation, he wanted to be a regular at Chelsea. I gave him time to decide and said to (Nigel) De Jong and Fernando Torres to speak with him and convince him to come here. In the end he said yes and he is a great talent.”Source: Sky Sports"

If De Jong and Torres were not enough to do the job then Galliani could have asked one of the many Dutch footballers who became legends at the club to make the call. Frank Rijkaard, Marco Van Basten, Ruud Gullit, and Clarence Seedorf all made over 100 appearances and created the great tradition of Dutch players at AC Milan.

Marco Van Ginkel has some big shoes to fill if he seeks to replicate what those great players did at the San Siro. Obviously he will not come close to their appearance records but he has the chance to further his development and make a strong impression on the footballing world. A great season at Milan could allow Van Ginkel to force his way in to the first team and Jose Mourinho would certainly be delighted with that.
