After making some big time signings this summer, Chelsea FC were considered one of the favorites to lift the Premier League trophy. After three emphatic wins in three matches Chelsea have shown their title credentials and the pressure is being piled on. According to Andre Schurrle, that pressure was there since the preseason and is nothing new for the Blues.

Andre Schurrle said: “We were already made aware in pre-season that the club is under pressure that we have to win something. At Chelsea everyone’s used to winning a title every year. And we also added a lot of quality this summer.”

The Blues have won their fair share of trophies in the last four years but to not even challenge for the Premier League title is unacceptable. The closest Chelsea came to the title was last season when they were not eliminated until the second to last match of the Premier League season.

Chelsea has also built an impressive squad loaded with senior internationals who would walk in to the starting eleven of many of the top clubs in world football. Schurrle said: “We have a huge squad now; 20 players, who all want to play. If we manage to become one team now, we can achieve something. The Premier League stands above all, especially for the fans.”

Andre Schurrle also spoke about the club’s title rivals and said: “After four years without that title everyone’s longing for it. I think that Manchester City are our main rivals. Arsenal made good reinforcements. And at Manchester United you need to wait and see how long it takes Louis van Gaal to complete the transition. I also have Liverpool in my books.”

Jose Mourinho does not go very long without winning a trophy and to not win one last season after coming so close was difficult for everyone at the club to accept. Nothing less than a major trophy, or even two, is acceptable this season and the pressure is on at Stamford Bridge and everyone is feeling the heat.
