One of the worst non-season ending injuries a footballer can suffer is the dreaded hamstring pull. It can take weeks to heal and even when it feels like its back to 100%, it can pop up at any time and become aggravated once again. Unfortunately for Chelsea FC and Diego Costa he has been suffering all kinds of niggling muscle injuries the past few seasons with his hamstring being the chief concern.
Diego Costa missed several matches last season with those injuries and tried to play through the pain in the Champions League Final but was subbed off with less than ten minutes gone in the match. It is entirely possible that Costa felt good about his injuries leading up to the match but there is nothing quite like live match intensity.

The Chelsea season is only four weeks old and Diego Costa has already been diagnosed with two hamstring injuries. According to recent reports the injury he suffered with Spain last week is a completely different injury than the one he supposedly suffered in training with Chelsea. Despite that, the case can be made for Diego Costa to sit out this weekend or at the very least start on the bench.
Chelsea now have two very capable replacements for the Spanish striker in Didier Drogba and Loic Remy and they can both be trusted to do the job against Swansea City. The Swans have won their first three Premier League matches but they are still a mid-table side at best.
The Blues should start Didier Drogba against the Welsh side as he has had a full preseason and is more in sync with his teammates at the moment. Loic Remy has yet to train with his club teammates and will have at most two or three sessions with them before Saturday’s kickoff.
Chelsea have more than enough firepower to deal with Swansea and even without their leading scorer should be able to see them off. Diego Costa needs rest to recover from his injury and with a midweek Champions League date with Shalke coming up on September 17th, another weekend off will do him some good.
