Wilfried Bony And Ashley Williams A Doubt For Swansea City

Chelsea FC are not the only team that must deal with the challenges of an international break as they prepare for their top of the table clash with Swansea City. Swansea also had their fair share of players out on the international break with 11 members of the squad called away to represent their countries.

While only a few members of Chelsea’s squad, Petr Cech, Oscar, Willian, and Ramires were all in action last night, only Cech played the full 90 minutes. That is not an issue for Chelsea as Cech was not in line to start for the Blues anyway. Swansea City also had several players in action on Tuesday and also had a player in action tonight.

Captain and Swansea City centerback Ashley Williams played the full 90 minutes for Wales and attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson played for Iceland in their win over Turkey. Both Williams and Sigurdsson should both be ready for the weekend as they will have two training sessions with the team.

Talismanic striker Wilfried Bony was in action for the Ivory Coast tonight in their African Cup of Nations qualifier and thus will only have one training session with Swansea before the match on Saturday. Bony has yet to score for Swansea City this season but has looked dangerous with 10 shots on goal.

If Bony is out for the match against Chelsea then Garry Monk may give France international Bafetimbi Gomis a start in the Premier League for the first time. Gomis is a similar player to Bony in that he provides Swansea City a physical target man to finish off their slick passing moves.

Chelsea have their own fitness issues to worry about with striker Diego Costa looking doubtful for the weekend after suffering a hamstring injury when on duty with Spain. We know that Chelsea has the depth to overcome an injury like that but it is yet to be seen if Swansea City can do the same.
