One of the challenges of the Chelsea FC loan system is that sometimes players on loan can become disillusioned with the process and lose sight of the end game. Some players like Patrick Bamford use it as motivation while others may start angling for moves to other clubs. It is unclear what exact category Lucas Piazon is in but he seems open to a permanent move elsewhere.
Lucas Piazon has spent the last two seasons on loan at Malaga and Vitesse Arnhem and is now on loan to German club Eintracht Frankfurt. Piazon has only made two appearances so far for the Bundesliga side but appears to be settling well and enjoying himself.

Piazon compared the loan stints and said, “Malaga was a bit like Brazil. The beach, the sun, easy football. In Netherlands, the language is as complicated as here. But the league was weaker. Everything’s more professional in Frankfurt. The Bundesliga is one of the most difficult leagues, and that’s why it’s fun to play there.”
The Brazilian midfielder is adjusting well to the new country and league and is even learning the German language to better adapt. Piazon spoke at length about his experience in coming from Brazil to Europe at a young age and the reality of how difficult it is to break in to the Chelsea first team.
Piazon discussed all that and said, “I think it’s normal. Chelsea have so many very good players, and currently it’d be difficult for me to find a place there. Here, I can play here and gather experience. I am only 20 now. And like I’ve said, everything can happen in football.”
“If everything fits, I can certainly imagine staying in Frankfurt. I’ll move into my flat next week. And I’ll begin language school this week to learn German. I came to Chelsea directly from Brazil. I know everyone at the club. Of course, I’d wish to play for there again. But football is a bag of tricks, everything can change so fast.”
Lucas Piazon’s career has lost a little bit of steam since he made his first Premier League appearance for the club in 2012/13. He was never a prospect at the level of Josh McEachran and was never given that many opportunities but he has struggled to find a home while on loan.
Piazon was Vitesse Arnhem’s best player in the first half of the season but lost his momentum and was relegated to the bench after the new year. He will look to turn things around in Frankfurt and will do so with the backing of Chelsea and their loan staff.
If that means he earns a permanent and Chelsea decide to sell him then that is just the reality of club football these days. Piazon himself seems to have come to terms with that so hopefully he can turn that in to motivation and prove that he is good enough for the Chelsea first team.
