Chelsea FC vs. Everton Goal Analysis
By Mike Adams
1st Everton Goal (45’) – Everton got onto the score sheet very similar to last seasons game, this time the goal coming from Belgian Kevin Mirallas. After the two quick goals the Blues eased off the pressure allowing Everton to recover and get back into the game.
Prior to the goal, the entire Chelsea FC 11 were inside their defensive half letting Everton dictate the tempo of the match. Mirallas played the ball to Gareth Barry, who had found space in the center of the pitch, and started moving towards the box. Eden Hazard moved out of position to challenge letting Seamus Coleman run free down the right flank. Azpilicueta and John Terry were both marking former blue Romelu Lukaku centrally, letting Coleman get into a good crossing position. The Irishman’s cross connected with the unmarked Mirallas, who headed past Thibaut Courtois. The goal gave the Toffee’s much needed momentum going into halftime.
