Marco Van Ginkel: Fernando Torres Convinced Me To Come To AC Milan

Marco Van Ginkel is spending the 2014-15 season on loan at AC Milan but the move was not as clear cut as it should have been. The young midfielder initially did not want to go on loan and preferred to stay at Chelsea FC to try and win a place in central midfield.

Van Ginkel would have faced some very stiff competition from the likes of Ramires, Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas, and John Obi Mikel had he stayed at Stamford Bridge. Instead he is in a much more favorable situation at the San Siro but it took some convincing to get him down there.

Van Ginkel told the Milan Channel that Fernando Torres and Nigel De Jong were instrumental in convincing him to join them in Italy. The youngster knows De Jong from the Dutch national team and is of course very familiar with Torres from his time at Stamford Bridge.

"“I’m really happy here at Milan, they are a wonderful club. There are nice people and good players. De Jong and Torres called me several times to convince me to accept AC Milan, Nigel told me about the history of the club and my future in Milan. At Chelsea there was not much space after my injury and I was looking for the opportunity to play frequently. Nigel really convinced me, now I’m happy to be here. Playing in a stadium like the San Siro is a real pride for me. Mourinho suggested for me to come to AC Milan. Jose thought about my future and my needs.”Source: Sky Sports"

Marco Van Ginkel has yet to make an appearance for the Italian giants but has only missed one match so far. He was an unused substitute in AC Milan’s win against Parma but hopefully he should make a name for himself in the first team once he becomes more familiar with his teammates.
