After Chelsea FC left the Etihad with a point in hand, a decent result by any measure, Jose Mourinho was no doubt asked about the manner in which the Manchester City equalizer was scored. Mourinho did not mince his words and was his usual blunt self when speaking about his former player Frank Lampard.

Frank Lampard and Mourinho shared a special bond at Chelsea and it must have been difficult for the manager to see his former star player score against the Blues. Mourinho however is not one to share his emotions on issues like this especially in the context of facing off against a title rival and manager in Manuel Pellegrini that he very clearly does not like.
"“Frank Lampard is a Man City player, I don’t believe in stories of passion and heart, maybe I am too pragmatic in football. When he decided to go to a direct competitor to Chelsea then love stories are over. He did his job as a professional. He got a good reception and this is England and this is Chelsea. Chelsea people never forget what Chelsea people do at the club. It happened to me when I was manager of Inter. It is Chelsea’s culture and beauty.”-Jose MourinhoSource: Squawka"
Just like Didier Drogba said, Frank Lampard is indeed a Manchester City player but he does still belong to Chelsea in the greater sense. Mourinho was clearly upset at the goal but he could have been just as upset had Yaya Toure or some other City player had scored it.
Mourinho himself said just weeks ago that football is about love and he undoubtedly loves Frank Lampard so it must have pained him to see today’s events unfold. He may claim not to believe in passion and heart in football but his celebrations in big moments have proven otherwise. Still, it is understandable why he would say those things to the media but what he feels in his heart is something else entirely.
