Aston Villa’s dangerous striker Christian Benteke is close to making a full recovery from an Achilles injury but luckily for Chelsea FC fans he will not play against the Blues this weekend. Instead he appears to be on track to make a recovery in time for Aston Villa’s match against Manchester City the following week. The Belgian striker has been in training for the past two weeks and according to his manager is close to being back to match fitness.

Christian Benteke suffered the Achilles tear in a training session last April and has been on an injury layoff ever since. He was in line to start for Belgium as their first choice striker but was forced to miss the World Cup because of the injury. Before being injured, Benteke was in fine form for the Villans with 11 goals in 28 starts in the Premier League and domestic cup competitions.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert spoke about Christian Benteke’s recovery and said, “He’s getting closer, next week we will see how he is for the Man City game. I’m not saying he’ll start, or anything, but he’s certainly getting close.” Benteke playing against Manchester City would suit everyone just fine. He has yet to score against the Sky Blues in his two years with Aston Villa but he is far and away their best goalscoring threat.
Christian Benteke is one of the better strikers in the Premier League and is a joy to watch when he is on form. His physical play is reminiscent of a young Didier Drogba and his technical ability is underrated. He can just as easily bully the defense with his physicality or run right past them with his pace and thankfully he will be watching the match this weekend from the crowd and not taking part in it.
