The youngster missed his penalty in the shootout but in a remarkable turn of events he was given another chance and buried his second penalty of the match.
Middlesbrough eventually fell to Liverpool but Patrick Bamford showed tremendous maturity in the match and showed that he has earned the trust of his teammates and his manager. Bamford’s loan deal with Middlesbrough is only scheduled to run until January 2015 but the youngster is open to extending the loan for the rest of the season.
"“I chose to come here until January because I wanted to keep my options open. The way things are going at the moment I’m more than happy to extend the loan if the opportunity arises. I’m loving it here. A lot of the training sessions are similar to those at Chelsea, which isn’t a surprise given the connection between the managers. The tempo and intensity are higher than any other loan club I’ve been at and it seems to have paid off with my first goal.”-Patrick BamfordSource: Sky Sports"
We have already discussed at length that first team football and finding the right situation is key to the success of any loan deal. Patrick Bamford has certainly found a good mix of both with Aitor Karanka and Middlesbrough so if Chelsea is given the option to extend his loan then they should do so without hesitation.
