Jose Mourinho Dismisses Manuel Pellegrini’s Comments

After last weekend’s dramatic Premier League clash with Manchester City that ended with a draw, City manager Manuel Pellegrini could not help but make some snide comments about Jose Mourinho and his tactics. The Chilean compared Chelsea FC to a “small team” and said that they played like Stoke City when they came to the Etihad. Jose Mourinho has yet to respond to those comments and he does not plan on it.

In his press conference ahead of the match with Aston Villa, Jose Mourinho was asked by members of the press what his thoughts were on Pellegrini’s comments. He responded by saying that he does not have a reaction but also took a few shots at the Manchester City manager in passing by saying that Pellegrini always talks about things he says he will not talk about.

"“I don’t have a reaction. I think you (the media) should, not me. It was not once or two or three times that he said he doesn’t speak about referees (then) he killed Mark Clattenburg (after City’s draw at Arsenal).“It was not one, two, three or four times that he said he does not talk about me or my team’s opponents (then) he did it once more. So I think it is for you to comment. When I say I don’t want to speak about him that’s what I try to do. If you want the story you have to speak to him and not me. I follow my line I don’t want to discuss any situation in relation to that.”Source: Sky Sports"

It seems that Manuel Pellegrini has taken the role of chief villain/complainer opposite Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea manager often has a bit of back and forth with opposing managers that sometimes goes past friendly banter and crosses in to personal attacks (see “Specialist in Failure). Mourinho appears to be trying to diffuse the tension but it is certainly not the last we have heard of this feud.
