Chelsea FC loanee Nathaniel Chalobah was in action on Tuesday for his loan club Burnely’s U21s and suffered an unspecified injury that was apparently severe enough to warrant a trip to the hospital in an ambulance. The exact nature of the injury was unclear until today as Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed the midfielder suffered a bruised windpipe.

More from Chelsea FC Loan Watch

The exact length of Nathaniel Chalobah’s injury layoff is also unknown but it could be up to several weeks which is incredibly poor timing for the youngster. Burnley is in the midst of an injury crisis in midfield and Nathaniel Chalobah was starting to make his way in to the first team. Unfortunately for Chalobah he will also miss a few matches for the England U21s

Sean Dyche on Nathaniel Chalobah’s injury:

"“Nathaniel won’t be fit [for the weekend clash against Leicester City]. He hurt his windpipe on Tuesday after an arm to the throat, and there is some damage there. He’s not in any danger, but we can’t put it at further risk of getting another whack. We’ll have it checked again once the swelling settles down, as it can effect (sic) your breathing.”Source: Burnley Express"

Nathaniel Chalobah’s message of thanks for support during his injury layoff.

A bruised windpipe seems like an awful injury to have and it is unfortunate that it happened at such a pivotal time in the season for the youngster. We wish Nathaniel Chalobah all the best and we hope for a swift recovery and return to the Burnley first team so he can continue his development under Sean Dyche.
