Chelsea FC goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spoke to ChelseaFC.com about the match and win against Sporting CP and the club’s Champions League hopes. Thibaut Courtois kept his second straight clean sheet against Sporting CP after doing the same against Aston Villa on the weekend. The Belgian was not called in to action very often but he rose to occasion, sometimes literally, when called upon to make a save for his team.

Thibaut Courtois has more experience in the Champions League than the average 22 year old goalkeeper after his exploits in the competition with Atletico Madrid. Courtois and Atletico made it as far as the Champions League Final and took eventual winners Real Madrid to extra time before falling apart and conceding what seemed like 10 goals.
Thibaut Courtois on the win over Sporting and the club’s Champions League hopes:
"“We are a top team and we need to be first in the group. After drawing our first game in the Champions League at home we had to get that first win and we’ve done that now. We knew it was going to be a tough game. Our priority was to win the game and the instructions from the coach were clear in that direction. We had chances. It’s not always as easy as it looks. The pitch was quite sandy and bouncy which makes it more difficult. Sporting had a few good moments but in general we were okay.Of course not every player gets the opportunity that I had, so it’s normal to think about it and to hope to win it this year. The team as a group is strong and works well together, but if you look at everyone individually all the players are at the top level. We’ve had a good start to the season and we need to continue this way.”Source: ChelseaFC.com"
Courtois has shown a great level of maturity this season and has really grown in to the role of Chelsea FC’s number one goalkeeeper. He is working well with his teammates and making spectacular saves when called upon. He was given an opportunity to take over the position and he has done so magnificently.
