Chelsea FC’s Lewis Baker Receives First England U21 Call Up

Lewis Baker is having himself quite a year. The Chelsea FC youngster was promoted to the senior squad this season by Jose Mourinho though he has yet to make a first team appearance this season. Baker has also made appearances for the England U17, England U19s, and was even selected to be the captain of the England U20 side last month. Lewis Baker will be joined by his Chelsea FC teammate and fellow loanee Patrick Bamford who has been spending this season on loan at Middlesbrough. Bamford has made one appearance for the England U21s but his profile is rising steadily as he continues to impress at Boro.

"England’s Under-20s have a three-game mini tournament in the Netherlands and manager Aidy Boothroyd has named three Chelsea Academy youngsters – Fankaty Dabo, Jordan Houghton and John Swift – in his squad.Ola Aina, Charlie Colkett, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Izzy Brown are in Sean O’Driscoll’s first squad as England’s Under-19 manager. They have matches against Luxembourg, Belarus and Belgium as the campaign to reach next summer’s European Championships begins.Source: ChelseaFC.com"

Jose Mourinho himself said that he would take the blame if Lewis Baker, along with Izzy Brown and Dom Solanke, were not England regulars at some point in their careers. It appears that Lewis Baker is impressing all the right people after he was selected as U20 captain and is now ready to start transitioning to the U21s. It will not be long before he is making appearances for the Chelsea first team which will ideally transition to a big role in the England senior squad.
